Appointments - Information regarding Appointments

Make An Appointment

• Telephone 01625 532244 between 8.00am and 6.30pm
• Via this website (See below)

To register with this service, you will need to complete a registration form and provide two forms of identification (photographic ID and proof of address) to prove who you are as we will be giving you access to confidential/private information about yourself. Reception will provide you with a leaflet produced by the Practice and the Patients Group to help get you started. Once you have registered to use this facility click on the 'Book an Appointment Online' button located on the home page to look for any available appointments. Bookable online appointments are limited as not all patients are registered to book appointments this way.

Appointments with a Doctor can only be made up to five working days ahead. The reason for this is that, when appointments are made several weeks ahead, patients often get better and appointments are then forgotten and therefore not available for patients that need them. See our website for details of daily availability of our Doctors. Consultations are for 10 minutes and are for one patient only and do not cover accompanying family members or carers. If felt necessary, longer appointments can be requested subject to availability.

Doctors (only) can arrange follow-up appointments for patients up to six weeks ahead where they feel this is necessary eg patients referred for tests/investigations.

Owing to other commitments, the doctor of your choice may not always be available, but all doctors and nurses have access to your up-to-date medical record. See the surgeries page for individual doctor's working days, or ask at reception.

Telephone Consultations

These can be booked with a Doctor, Nurse or Health Care Assistant to discuss test results, simple medication reviews, referrals to consultants and general medical advice. The advantage of this is that you can speak to a Clinician without leaving your home. You can book these in advance or, if it is more urgent, the Duty Doctor can ring you back on the day. Telephone calls are normally made after morning surgery, usually between 11.00am and 12.00pm, although it may be later if the surgery runs over.

Please make sure you are available when they ring as they will not leave a message, nor make further calls, for reasons of patient confidentiality. Please notify us if you change your telephone number.

Making an urgent on the day appointment with the Nurse Practitioner or Doctor

We have two emergency surgeries running each day, appointments for the morning are released at 8.00am and the afternoon appointments released at 12.00pm. Should the Nurse Practitioner require it, she has free access to a Doctor and, if it is felt necessary, you will be further assessed by the Triage Doctor.

Making An Appointment With A Nurse, Health Care Assistant Or The Phlebotomist

Appointments can be booked more than five days ahead and are not available on-line because, depending on the reason for the appointment, the time needed will vary. See the Surgeries page for details of daily availability of our Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomist.

See The Nurse Instead Of The Doctor

You can see our Practice Nurses for any of the following conditions/reviews: Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Hypertension, Hearing Problems, Cardiac Reviews, Family Planning, HRT, Diet Advice, Well Person Checks,  Immunisations, Dressings, Smears or a Blood Pressure Check.

You will get an appointment much quicker and you will start to benefit from treatment sooner

Attending the surgery for an Appointment

When you arrive, please enter your details into the check-in screens. This notifies the Doctor/Clinician that you are waiting. If appropriate, the number of patients waiting to be seen before you will be displayed on the screen.

Appointment Reminders, Delays and Cancellations

To help reduce the number of patients who do not attend for their appointments, if you provide us with your mobile number, we will automatically send you a text 48 hours before your appointment. Please notify us if you change your mobile number.

If you are unable to keep an appointment, please inform Reception, as far in advance as possible, by calling into the Practice, telephoning or cancelling on line so that the appointment is available for another patient.

Patients who repeatedly fail to keep appointments or cancel them at short notice, may, if they persist after a written warning, be removed from the Practice list.

If surgeries have to be cancelled for any reason, our receptionists will try to notify you as quickly as possible.

Doctors & nurses endeavour to see patients on time, but if they are running seriously late for any reason or emergency, you will be informed. Delays of this kind are rare but unavoidable, and your patience is requested.

Waiting Times

We aim to see 90% of our patients within 20 minutes of your scheduled appointment time, as opposed to the time you arrive. Very often the Doctor or Nurse does not know what patients are going to discuss and this means they can sometimes get delayed. If they are running late as a result of other patients taking longer than 10 minutes or they have a medical emergency, then the Receptionists will let you know. Please be patient during this time. You can help us by being on time for your appointment and giving us ample notice if you need to cancel.
